Emu 0404 24/96 Digital Audio PCI Card
The E-MU 0404 Digital Audio PCI Sound Card delivers everything you need to produce audio on a PC with professional results -- pristine 24-bit/96kHz converters, hardware-accelerated effects and mixing, and seamless compatibility with your favorite PC audio/sequencer software.
    Feature:
Very, very low latency, astoundingly so! Must be the 32 bit DSP.

    Quality:
    Top notch all the way.

    Value:
Top notch card for the price.

    Desirability:
It's a very good product but obviously a break out box would be more sexy but it would be more expensive.

    Sound:
Really nice, bright sound with lots of headroom.

    Support:
Never really used it but they give you some decent manuals (PDF's).

    Overall:
I would say unless your getting really serious about recording, this should easily suffice the loan musician or creating demos.

Review : Feature:
I would cut off every single tail on the fan if I could just get one input to record for 20 minutes (not continuous, total!) without crapping out either the PC, the host application, or itself. I really dont care about any of its other features when it cant do simple 2-channel recording (strangely enough, what I purchased it for).

Quality:
It was clean.

Value:
Never never never never never never buy anything with the word CREATIVE on it.

Desirability:
UGH. Dont fall for the one or two positive reviews -- I did, and lo and behold Im adding a coffin nail of my own.

Sound:
When I could get it to work, it had about a 50/50 chance of recording clean. Occasionally, one channel would be all crackly, but never the same channel twice. I think others have said it better, but the first time I managed to get two clean tracks laid down, the ASIO send just stopped halfway through the third.

Support:
Ive seen enough to know not to go that route. Ive owned it for 48 hours, and will own it only long enough for its replacement to come in the mail. And if that dont work either, Im off to dedicated hardware land.

Overall:
My satisfaction with this product was gone within 24 hours.

Feature:
I'm fine with everything except you only get 1 stereo in and 1 stereo out.

Quality:
Good quality.

Value:
See ease of use. I bought this card a couple months ago and I'm already seriously considering buying another. The RME's are a bit out of my price range, but I think the MAudio 44 or 66 will do. Both have more inputs and outputs and are still balanced.

Desirability:
I would have given this a 10 right when I bought it. It's great for windows users who don't mind having PatchMix run all the time.

Sound:
I'm not giving it a 10 because I probably don't know what a 10 sounds like. It's a huuuuuuuuuuge step up from a gaming card. Very clear sounds--it had me listening to my favorite music all over again. Such a pleasure to listen to.

Support:
It's a loser in this category.

Overall:
My situation is a little obscure. You should still consider it because it does sound great. I don't like the software supporting it at all.

Review : Feature:
I am absolutely overjoyed that the inputs and outputs are BALANCED and do not come in a seperate unit.

Quality:
This product was made exceptionally well. Nothing flimsy about it at all.

Value:
I paid $199 Canadian for it and it performs better than audio interfaces that have cost me almost $1200.

Desirability:
Being that it is a PCI audio interface, I like that it is almost invisible in my studio setup and not cramping space.

Sound:
The sound is very impressive and the best I have encountered in my studio from an audio interface. I have previously used the following audio interfaces: Seasound Solo EX, Edirol DA2496, Edirol UA-5 and the Edirol UA-20.

Support:
N/A

Overall:
This audio interface allows me to connect to other dedicated units pertnient to my needs (ex. microphone preamp - Grace Design Model 101, etc...) plus it has performed smoothly without giving me any unpleasant surprises.

Review : Feature:
Lots of I/O. Very nice.

Quality:
The HW seems fine, but the software is not. The control panel doesnt seem to control much; none of the faders, mute, solo controls work. Cannot patch the way one would expect, as in I cannot send audio outs where I want, and have to accept the default outs. Send to mixer monitor should be renamed "send to audio black hole" as no sound excapes the mixer. So, of the six channel speaker setup I have (5.1 M-Audiio studio setup) I can only get audio out of two speakers with no control over volume, solo, pan, or mute.

Value:
I would rate this a lot higher if the control panel did something useful - like controled the audio/patch panel.

Desirability:
If support fixes tie problems I am seeing, I will rate it higher.

Sound:
It is comparable with other cards.

Support:
I have sent an email to customer support, and fully expect the type of support I have received in the past. Which is to say, I do not expect to hear from them at all.

Overall:
If support does not fix the problems I am seeing, then I expect to continue to be dissatisfied with M-Audio products. I was victimized by M-Audio with their FW410 fiasco (the crash o`matic 410), and have had less than stellar results with the Moble-pre USB. The studio speakers are nice...
